Z.D. Dochterman’s “No Donuts” has a narrator who one day realizes he has a rock growing out of his forehead that’s been there for years.

Ro Molina’s “La Llorona” has a lush setting and captivating characters as its young narrator tries to save his brother before La Llorona comes to claim him.
